In Center City, the newish but beloved Hotel Palomar (from about $249 in low season; 117 South 17th St., map) is a good bet, with 230 stylish rooms and both boutique (L’Occitane products, free nightly wine-tasting) and eco-friendly (Energy Star-rated appliance) touches.

Equally well-located and a bit cheaper is Club Quarters (from $129 in low season; 1628 Chestnut St., map)—technically a business hotel, but just as suitable for leisure travelers looking for a good price and all the basic amenities, including free wi-fi.
