This is a 19th century Ottoman dish. Sultan Abdülaziz was very passionate about food. He often had his wives prepare special dishes for him. One of his concubines from Africa is said to have been a great chef, and prepared a dish of meat stew and eggplant puree. The Sultan liked it so much that its name became “Hünkârbeğendi”- "The Sultan liked it"
