You’ll find it in other parts of the country, but sopa de lima, or lime soup, is really from Mexico’s Yucatán peninsula. However, before we covered that region’s delicious distinct foods, we covered it here. Why not just keep this regional Yucatecan dish in its region of origin? Well, because it’s one of our favorite Mexican soups, managing to both comfort and enliven the taste buds with its combination of tangy lime flavor, crunchy fried tortilla strips, shredded chicken or turkey, and healthy dose of spice. Try it anywhere you find it in Mexico!

Where: We had this bowl of sopa de lima at Restaurante/Bar Montejo (5516-2637; 4 Sur Benjamín Franklin 261), a cantina and white-tablecloth restaurant in Mexico City serving Yucatecan food (happily, you can get the soup in the atmospheric cantina downstairs, a brightly lit space filled with the requisite mariachis and old guys playing dominoes). Look for this dish in Yucatecan restaurants across the country.
