So after taking the train to Cinque Terre from elsewhere in Europe, like from Florence, Pisa, or Milan, you might find yourself looking at your map and asking, what now? Here’s my guide to the top four attractions, activities, and food in the five Cinque Terre towns.

1. Eat gelato while watching the sun set. I’d recommend the gelato shop located a few doors down if you take a right out of the Monterosso train station.
2. Either hike the Via dell’Amore between Riomaggiore and Manarola, or wander through the narrow alleyways of Corniglia. The views are spectacular.
3. Relax on the beach in Monterosse and climb to the top of a rock to watch the waves wash in.
4. Try the classic dish incepted in the Liguria region that Cinque Terre is found in, trofie al pesto. The dish is composed of short, thin homemade pasta coated in a vibrant, garlicky, and cheesy basil pesto sauce.

Basically, you can see my tourist style, eat great, local food; wander around hoping for serendipitous finds; and participate in a few of the top “stereotypical” tourist things.
