Takoyaki

Stall at the Toji Temple Flea Market (21st of the month)
Toji Temple, Kyoto

The classic Japanese snack, available from street stalls and markets all over the country. Chunks of octopus buried in balls of creamy batter, cooked in a special takoyaki pan. Served with some combination of the ubiquitous sweet/savoury brown sauce, mayonnaise, katsuobushi flakes as topping. Comfort food at its creamy, grilled, sticky, chewy best.
